Bitcoin holders can now swap BTC directly for tokenized gold (XAUt0) in one transaction using the BOB Gateway, according to a May 14 announcement from USDT0. The integration enables direct BTC-to-XAUt0 swaps without an intermediary holding customer funds.
"The integration enables BTC-to-XAUt0 swaps in a single transaction, without an intermediary holding funds," the USDT0 Blog said. The feature is aimed at Bitcoin holders seeking exposure to gold without the need to move funds through centralized exchange accounts.
The system uses USDT0 as a routing asset for settlement on Ethereum, with BOB Gateway handling the cross-chain delivery, gas abstraction, and routing. While the service is currently live for swaps settling on Ethereum Mainnet, the company announced that BNB Chain and about 11 additional chains are on the expansion roadmap.
This development could significantly increase the utility of Bitcoin as a gateway to tokenized real-world assets (RWA). By tapping directly into the large Bitcoin holder base, the feature may boost demand for Tether's XAUt0 gold token and strengthen the broader narrative for on-chain asset tokenization, reducing reliance on traditional financial intermediaries. The firm noted its API and SDK could extend direct Bitcoin access across 15,000 applications.
