Crypto exchange OKX will add support for Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin, introducing more than 280 new spot trading pairs and enabling its use as collateral for derivatives trading.
The expansion, confirmed by the exchange on April 29, significantly increases the utility of RLUSD on a major global platform. According to an official announcement, the move is designed to provide traders with greater flexibility and capital efficiency by allowing them to use the stablecoin to back futures and perpetual swap positions.
The listing provides RLUSD with deep liquidity across a wide range of crypto assets. The ability to use it as collateral for derivatives is a key feature for institutional and professional traders seeking to optimize margin requirements. This follows Ripple's recent expansion with the Bullish exchange to offer BTC options trading, where RLUSD is also accepted as collateral, signaling a broader strategy to embed its stablecoin in institutional-grade trading venues.
This development boosts RLUSD’s position in the competitive stablecoin market, where total supply exceeds $160 billion, according to data from DefiLlama. The integration comes as payment giants like Visa expand their own stablecoin settlement programs on blockchains including Base and Polygon, showing a clear trend toward the adoption of stablecoins in global finance.
Stablecoin Frameworks Take Shape
The expansion of stablecoin use on major platforms like OKX and Visa occurs as regulators advance legislative frameworks. In the U.S., senators are negotiating the CLARITY Act, a bill aimed at creating a comprehensive regulatory structure for stablecoin issuers. According to Senator Thom Tillis, progress has been made on addressing concerns from the banking sector about how stablecoin yields are handled, with a potential committee markup expected in the coming month. The outcome of such legislation will directly impact the operational and compliance requirements for stablecoins like RLUSD.
