Anchorage Unlocks Institutional Access to Puffer's $62M Protocol
On March 12, 2026, institutional crypto platform Anchorage Digital announced it will provide its clients with direct access to Ethereum liquid restaking through an integration with Puffer Finance. The partnership allows institutions to stake Ether (ETH) held in Anchorage's regulated custody and receive Puffer's liquid restaking token, pufETH, directly into their accounts. This arrangement streamlines access to staking and restaking rewards by removing the need for institutions to run their own validators or manage complex onchain infrastructure.
The integration presents a significant growth opportunity for Puffer Finance. While the liquid restaking sector holds a collective $7.2 billion in total value locked (TVL), it is heavily dominated by ether.fi, which commands approximately $5.6 billion in TVL. Puffer Finance currently manages a much smaller $62 million in restaked Ether, and this regulated on-ramp from Anchorage could funnel substantial institutional capital into its protocol, challenging the established market hierarchy.
Integration Cements Anchorage's Role as Institutional DeFi Gateway
This partnership reinforces Anchorage Digital's strategy of building a comprehensive, regulated bridge for institutions to access onchain finance. As the operator of the first federally chartered crypto bank in the U.S., Anchorage is systematically expanding its services to meet institutional demand for secure and compliant digital asset engagement. The Puffer Finance integration follows other strategic initiatives, including providing custody and token generation services for real-world asset (RWA) platforms like Pharos Network and enhancing security for its self-custody wallet through a partnership with Immunefi.
The move validates Ethereum restaking as an increasingly viable yield strategy for traditional financial players. By offering a product that fits within its established custody and governance framework, Anchorage Digital is lowering the barrier to entry for a new class of conservative investors. This puts pressure on competing custody providers and restaking protocols to develop similar institutional-grade solutions, accelerating the maturation of the entire DeFi ecosystem.
